Abortion Clinic Regulations based on AUL Model Legislation Headed to Oklahoma Governor for Signature

WASHINGTON, D.C. (04-24-14) – Following debate on the floor of the Oklahoma House today, legislators voted 75-15 to pass SB 1848, which earlier passed the State Senate by 34-8. Based on Americans United for Life model legislation found in the Women’s Protection Project, the legislation is designed to protect women from “house of horrors” clinics such as the clinic convicted murderer Dr. Kermit Gosnell operated. Governor Mary Fallin is expected to sign the bill within the next week. “Common-sense regulation of abortion clinics is not only popular with Americans, it represents the very least that the highly profitable abortion industry should do […]

New Georgia Law Protects Taxpayers from Forced Funding of Abortion Insurance in Obamacare

WASHINGTON, D.C. (04-24-14) – Americans United for Life President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest called today’s signing of Georgia SB 98, which prohibits insurance plans that cover abortion from participating in the state’s health insurance “exchange” established under Obamacare, and prohibits state employees from receiving publicly-funded insurance coverage for abortion, “the kind of courageous, bi-partisan effort that engages the majority of Americans troubled by an aggressive and expanding abortion industry.” Governor Nathan Deal today signed the new law that was based on AUL’s model legislation designed to protect taxpayers from an avaricious abortion lobby by preventing public funding from subsidizing insurance coverage […]

Mississippi Women Better Protected as Governor Signs Historic Legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. (04-23-14) – Americans United for Life President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest commended Mississippi legislators and Governor Phil Bryant, who signed Mississippi HB 1400 into law, limiting abortions at 5 months of pregnancy when the procedure becomes extremely dangerous to the woman’s life. The law was substantially based on AUL model legislation, developed with a mother-child focus that addresses the health risks of abortion for women as well as the pain felt by the unborn child. “We know that with each passing week of pregnancy, the health risks of abortion increase,” said Dr. Yoest. “A woman seeking an abortion at […]
